I had a fun time using time-lapse photography to create this concept commercial for Evolution Tattoo.
I used the pre-production prototype Cineflux dolly system to add some motion to my time-lapses. I have had the opportunity to watch as the Cineflux system has been developed and fine tuned and I have to say that I’m very excited for the first batch to be released within the next month.
Shooting and post production was a bit of a different challenge on this one. I was essentially shooting raw, 4k images with still photos from my Panasonic GH3. The added dynamic range that the raw gave me was amazing for color grading. I imported the time-lapses into After Effects, color graded with camera raw and then exported high bit rate Cineform AVI files to edit in Premiere. There I created the final edit and fine tuned the color grade with Film Convert.
Overall the shoot was challenging due to the nature of it. I’m used to grabbing lots of shots quickly but nothing is fast with time-lapse! It’s always rewarding to push yourself to try something new.
Learn more about Cineflux here, they are currently in production of the first batch of systems.
Also, if you are in Reno and feel like getting a tattoo stop by Evolution Tattoo and tell them I sent you! Great group of artists.
